Adventures In Cooking: What To Look Forward To As A New Vegan

Deciding to become a vegan is an enormous commitment to one's health that has a positive effect on the world itself. While your new lifestyle will contribute to a better world, you may be a bit hesitant as to where to start when it comes to vegan food. After all, giving up animal products may be a huge change to make at once! The great news is that going vegan doesn't mean you have to compromise on taste and delicious recipes. Here are just a few benefits you can expect when making the big switch and going vegan!

A Chance to Get Creative

One of the greatest benefits that you will soon learn when it comes to becoming vegan is how creative you will become in the kitchen! Going vegan not only means finding innovative ways to substitute prior eating habits but will also open up your world to a large variety of fruits, vegetables, and other foods that you may have passed on before. Zucchini, for example, can easily be transformed into noodles for those looking for both a vegan and gluten-free option and are absolutely delicious with a homemade tomato sauce. Jackfruit, to name another vegan creation, can be shredded and turned into a vegan-friendly version of pulled pork! The possibilities are truly endless, and you will find yourself looking for new ways to make your own creations in the kitchen soon enough.

Substitutes that Satisfy

While the absence of animal products may seem like a huge sacrifice to make as a new vegan, remember that by choosing this lifestyle, you are contributing to a kinder and more compassionate world. The great news is that there are plenty of substitutions available to vegans that are both tasty and nutritious! For those who love dairy products, for example, there are a vast array of milk and cheese substitutes made from ingredients including soy, rice, and nuts. Tofu is an excellent substitute for eggs and is especially delicious when scrambled with spinach! Meat substitutes including seitan, tempeh, and even black beans can be a surprising delight for your taste buds and can be included in a variety of vegan dishes including burgers, chili, and meatless meatballs.

For Your Sweet Tooth

Going vegan, while a healthy option, doesn't mean you have to give up sweets! Since so many sweet recipes can be substituted with vegan options, you can still enjoy plenty of tasty treats the entire year-round. Cookies, cakes, muffins, scones, and more can easily be made vegan using ingredients such as dairy-free milk, egg substitutes, and sweeteners. Buttercream frosting, for example, can be made vegan by using coconut milk, confectioner's sugar, and vanilla extract and would beautifully top a vanilla cake. Dairy-free cream cheese frosting, on the other hand, would work perfectly on carrot cake-inspired cupcakes, complete with chopped pecans and cinnamon. For those who have a love for chocolate, enjoying a warm slice of flourless chocolate cake with a cold glass of soy milk would be the perfect way to end your day.

About Me

Learning More About Dining Out

When my family and I moved overseas, we realized that we were going to have to do something a little different for dinner. Because our new apartment was exceptionally small, I realized that there were some serious problems with the idea of eating at home each and every night. I wanted to make dining more comfortable for my kids, so we decided to start dining out most nights of the week. It was a fun adventure, and before we knew it, we found all kinds of great restaurants near our home. Check out this blog to learn more about dining out.
